17 June 2001: This image shows a dark region in the centre of the planet's disc looking much like the continent of Africa is Syrtis Major. The bluish coloured areas around the limb and hazy white patch extending to the centre right of Syrtis Major are high cirrus clouds. This is one of the images used to make the animation at the top of this page.
