Updating Starl ock Firmware
Meade is constan tly working to improve the performance of its products and it is common for new features or performance improvements in the software to be developed. You can use the Starlock Utility program to update your Starlock firmware. The following equipment is needed to update the starlock firmware. · · · · · · L X800 Telescope with Autostar II handbox Starlock wit h con necting cable Meade #507 con necting cable Meade RS232/USB adapter (if needed) Computer with Starlock Utility program Updated Starlock firmware

Installation From the Meade website, download the Starlock firmware update to the computer desktop. Both the Starlock Utility program and updated firmware are packaged in an install file with a filename of the form "StarLockUpdate_Vxy.zip", where x and y are version and sub-version numbers. Once downloaded, unzip the file and double-click on t he StarLockUtil.exe file to run the Utility program. Connection In order to update the Starlock firmware, it needs to be connected to t he telescope control panel using the Starlock conn ecting cable. Plug the cables 4-pin con nector into the back end of Starlock labeled "Starlock Telescope Connector" and 6-pin side in to the "Starlock" port on the telescope con trol panel. Next, con nect t he Meade #507 cable into the back end of the Starlock labeled "RS-232 Port" and other end into the Serial adapter. The serial adapter should then be con nected to t he computers serial port. Note: If your computer is not equipped wit h a serial port, Meade's RS-232/USB adapter is required to connect via t he computers USB port.


Cable Connections

Running the Software Wit h t he Starlock con nected to t he computer, power on t he telescope control panel and wait for it to finish startup. Open the Starlock Utility program by double-clicking on t he StarLockUtil.exe file. Enter the correct " Comm Port" number for Starlock in to the Utility Program dialog box. The " Comm Port" number of the Starlock is found by opening the computer device manager and double clicking on "Ports (COM & LPT)". If using t he Meade USB/Serial Adapter, the expanded list will show a device called "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port" followed by the COM number in paren thesis. Enter this COM port number in to the Starlock Utility. If you have changed serial ports, click on the "Reset Con nection " button in the utility program.


Updating In the Utility program, con nect to t he starlock by pressing t he "Focus" button and wait for an image to download. This will take less than one minute. When an image downloads, click the button again (now labeled "Stop") to stop t he image and then click the "Update" button. A dialog box will appear. Select the new firmware *.ldr and click "Open". The status bar at the bottom of the screen will show you the firmware being downloaded. This will take several minutes to download and install. After the firmware has been successfully downloaded and verified, it will be installed into t h e Starlock. DO NOT POWER OFF THE COMPUTER OR TELESCOPE DURING THIS PROCESS. Once t he new firmware has been successfully installed, a message indicating t he firmware has been updated will be posted in t he bottom of the display. Close the Starlock Utility program and cycle t he telescope power off, then on again to complete the update.

STARLOCK UTILITY PROGRAM
