International SLR Observation on COMPASS-G1,-I3,-I5 and -M3

Introduction
In the current list of satellites tracked by ILRS stations, the mission for GNSS include:
one GPS satellites four GALILEO satellites six GLONASS satellites one QZSS satellite four COMPASS satellites

COMPASS is the Chinese regional satellite navigation system, consisting of satellites with GEO, IGSO and MEO orbit and the orbital altitudes of 21500-36000km .


Introduction
COMPASS-M1, first experimental satellite launched in April 2007 for Chinese GNSS, started being tracked by ILRS stations since December, 2008. The comparison of the returned signal strengths from different GNSS satellites by the international observation campaign started from December 2008. The results presented on the International Laser Workshop on "SLR Tracking of GNSS Constellations" (Metsovo, Greece on September 14-19, 2009).

In 2012, COMPASS-G1/-I3/-I5/-M3 become ILRS tracking satellites for precision orbit determination and microwave measuring technique calibration. And COMPASS-M1 stopped being tracked. Due to the COMPASS satellites orbit mode:
G1/-I3/-I5 can be tracked by stations in WPLTN and several in EUROLAS. M3 can be tracked by all ILRS stations.


The Observations of COMPASS satellites (May ­ August, 2012)
COMPASS-G1/-I3 began being observed from May 2012 and COMPASS-I5/-M3 from July 2012.

At the end of August, there are:

The following ones give the observations and the statistic of laser returns for COMPASS satellites by 1 kHz SLR system with laser power of about 1W at Shanghai Station.


COMPASS-G1 Average returns about 62 per one min


COMPASS-I3 Average returns about 98 per one min


COMPASS-I5 Average returns about 133 per one min


COMPASS-M3 Average returns about 158 per one min
