Meteor Streams: the Relation to Hazardous Celestial Bodies

Abstract:
Analytically tractable, the evolution of meteor particles' elliptic orbits in a gravitational field of the Sun is considered in view of light pressure, the Poynting–Robertson effect, and the corpuscular analogue of Poynting–Robertson effect. The compact formula connecting parameters of initial and final elliptic orbits (semi major axis and eccentricity; perihelion and aphelion distances) of meteor particles are deduced. In the context of the model for the evolution of meteor particles' orbits, the method of estimating the meteor stream's life time is derived.
In the context of the perturbed two-body problem, the criterion for the probable meteor particles parent bodies are identified. Some known meteor streams and their parent comets are linked by the suggested criteria. According to the model, the parent comets for meteor streams β Cancrids, λ Cygnids and κ Cygnids are 3D/Biela, 73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann, and 177 P/Barnard, respectively.
