Outbursts at active sunspots at the end of October 2003 also produced three intense bursts of ions of high energies.

The outbursts, marked by three red dots , are detected deep inside the atmosphere, in Antarctica. Such events could be dangerous to astronauts on Mars, or on their way there or back.
