EXPERIMENT "BIOEMULSIA"

russian

Objective:
Study and development testing of self-contained, closed reactor for obtaining biomass of microorganisms and bioactive substances without additional ingredients introduced and metabolism products removed; development on its basis of new highly efficient technologies of making drugs during just a few production stages.

Used science equipment Used science equipment:
• Equipment "Bioemulsia";
• Equipment "Biokont-T".

Description of the experiment:
After being delivered onboard, bioreactor with biomass of microorganisms is accommodated in body - incubator. Following its activation, bioreactor starts cultivation process, during which stirring in an automatic mode is activated at regular intervals, i.e. 4 times a day, 5 minutes each time. Thereafter, the bioreactor is paced in thermally insulated container "Biokont-T" to be sent to Earth.

Experiment results:
Investigations into the processes of nutrients and metabolite mass transfer started under true emulsion conditions and in the absence of surfactants causing distortions of mass transfer processes. These investigations can only be conducted under microgravity conditions.
The developed technology to obtain biomass will allow to reduce cost of biopreparations, to increase resistance of microorganisms and bioactive substance to freezing, drying, aerosolization, which would provide an additional economic effect.
