AUTOMATIC SYSTEM OF RADIATION AND ECOLOGICAL CONTROL

Works on development of the ground based automatic radiation and ecological station (ARES), which is to detect all radioactive activity in the atmosphere, have started in the Corporation in 1993. The development model of the ARES station designed to automatically control basic parameters of radiation environment in the observed area, was built in 1998.
These works caused the interest of the Russian Federation Ministry of Atomic Energy, which creates the branch's contingency and crisis center of all nuclear enterprises of the country.
The implementation of the radiation and ecological monitoring system will permit to introduce permanent automatic control of radiation pollution in the areas of nuclear fleet basing, nuclear fuel and wastes storage and other nuclear related technology installations.

The system will provide:

• Independent and all-round information on radiation environment in the areas of nuclear production;
  
• Creation of data base for real-time forecasting of radiation and ecological situation in emergency and normal modes of operation of nuclear installations;
  
• Acquisition of objective data on radiation situation in order to inform the public and to form public understanding of nuclear installations safety.
