Keck I

Sadly, we didn't get the full tour because they were starting the tour with the telescope afternoon test and found that it was not working properly, so telescope operator had to address the issues for that evening's observing. Our National Park Service guide provided lots of good information about the telescope.

Mauna Kea Summit

The summit of Mauna Kea is very near the observatories.

Note the sign has holes in it - all of the signs up there do to reduce the wind load!

In fact, we originally tried to go up to the observatory on Saturday, November 15th but the road was closed due to high winds (65 MPH) and ice. The road is not open if the winds exceed 55 MPH. We were successful on our second attempt on Sunday, November 16th.
