FIRPO MESSAGE #5

Last modified on March 19, 1997 by A. Richichi

ADC cards and filter/clock box.

The ADC card traditionally used with FIRPO I at CA has been
used also for FIRP OII in Russia. For this, it has been
necessary to modify the IRQ number, and as a result some confusion
has been generated. In general, remember that at CA the IRQ=4 is
used with both the old and the new versions of LUNOC (if a version
has a different number as a default, it can be still modified via
software in the ADC menu at the start of the programme). For this,
the W16 jumper must connect B-and-H. At the PC in Russia, this
IRQ is not available and we used IRQ=5: for this, connect W16
across C and I (just one step to the right from the CA configuration).
For more details, see also the file ADC.TXT in the LUNA/DOC directory
on the TM-5000.

At the same time, the new PCMCIA ADC card (DASCard 1000) has been
succesfully installed on the TM-5000 notebook, and used for
instance to record the Alpha Tau occultation at Arcetri on March 14, 1997.
Details on how to install and use the card are available on the
notebook itself (check the local WEB homepage). In general, insert
the card before turning on the PC: it will be recognized automatically
at switch on. The card can be used with its commercial control program
(it includes an internal clock), although L. Fabbroni is developing
some specific software for LO purposes.

Note that S. Richter has had problems with the filter/clock box during his March 1997 run at CA. VC and I also observed some problems during the February run in Russia. Apparently, the clock does not always work properly: the problem, according to SRi, is some loose contact in one corner of the board inside. If you meet this problem, try to touch and shift and shake the box till it works, then leave it alone. In the near future, we have planned to replace the filter/clock box altogether, so this information may be soon superseded.

From Steffen, 18 March 1997:
