Armagh Planetarium is proud to be associated with the International Year of Astronomy 2009 (IYA2009)

IYA 2009 is a global year of events celebrating all things associated with the absorbing science that is astronomy. IYA 2009 coincides with the 400th anniversary of the first use of an astronomical telescope by Galileo Galilei as well as many other notable anniversaries. The aim of this worldwide celebration is to promote a greater public interest in science and astronomy and enable people to experience the impact these exciting sciences have on our daily lives.

Over 140 countries are participating in the festivities and events are taking place throughout the year in regional, national and global centres. IYA 2009 encourages people to get involved in astronomy and gives first hand access not only to the many wonders of the night sky but also promotes the formation of friendships and connections between the general public, amateur and professional astronomers and science centresб  and educators worldwide. For details of forthcoming events see the PDF documents below.
