Echelle Delivery: November 2, 1998

Caption above photo

CARCES (C-hicago, ARC, E-chelle, S-pectrograph) arrived on site Sunday afternoon, 11/1/98 by Roberts Express.

Shu-i Wang and Connie Rockosi (both from UC), plus Mark Klaene, Ron Yarger, and Dave Woods (all from APO) began unloading Monday morning. Room is made in the bottom of the enclosure by moving the scaffolding (rented for the echelle) upstairs to the Observing level.

Roberts personnel were ready and willing.

Then the boxes of stuff started coming off.

It was kinda interesting that the mirror was packed in a crate labeled "13"--for those trescadecaphobics..

The other mirror crate.

If the stuff was lucky, it was taken down the arcade to the 2.5m or 3.5m work areas for testing. Otherwise, it is stored in the bottom of that cold enclosure.

Here's the instrument cart.

Camera crate.

More miscellaneous stuff.

The last of the camera boxes

And the camera tank. Plexiglas covers the camera opening for protection.

Shu-i signs for the delivery.

Testing for the next few days is planned for CARCES. The next pictures will be the installation activities beginning shortly thereafter.
