The Apache Point Observatory is privately owned and supported by the Astrophysical Research Consortium, whose mission is to operate the observatory to further astronomical research by the scientists and students of its member institutions. Those institutions are the Institute for Advanced Study, the University of Chicago, Johns Hopkins University, New Mexico State University, Princeton University, the University of Virginia, the University of Washington, and the University of Colorado-Boulder. NMSU operates the observatory site for the Consortium.

NMSU 1.0-M AND O.5-M TELESCOPE ACCESS
7:00pm - 11:00pm - located in Exhibit Space Be an astronomer and search the skies. Take control of a telescope, point it to an object of your choosing, and observe - just like our nightly observers. With assistance from our staff, two computers are made available to you to access the NMSU 1.0-m and the ARCSAT 0.5-m telescopes.

Science Presentations
Beginning at 7:00pm in the Science Presentation Area, and at the top of the hour until 11:00pm, these topics will be presented:

Apache Point Observatory - 5 minutes
Mark Klaene, Site Operations Manager Dr. Kurt S.J. Anderson, Site Director Learn about the nightly activities and science that is conducted by our four telescopes and see behind-the-scenes operations

OUTSIDE TELESCOPE VIEWING
7:00pm - 11:00pm - located outside, southwest corner of Visitor Center View objects in the night sky through 3 different telescopes. Choose an object and experience how to point and view.

TOUR OF THE 3.5-M TELESCOPE AT APACHE POINT OBSERVATORY
By reservation only A guided tour is offered for the 3.5-m telescope at Apache Point. You will be able to experience the operation of the telescope and its enclosure, as well as view objects through the special eyepiece. Transportation is provided by van to the site. Please check in for your tour one-half hour prior to departure; loading will begin in front of the Visitor Center15 minutes prior to departure. THE TOUR LEAVES PROMPTLY

SDSS SkyServer - 10 minutes
Dr. Stephanie Snedden, SDSS Lead Observer The data from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) belong to you. Whether you are interested in browsing for pretty objects, wish to conduct your own research based on SDSS data, or are an educator, the SDSS SkyServer is the place for you to go to get access to SDSS data. We will look at some of the features of the SkyServer to get you started on your own exploration of the Universe

David Dooling, Education and Public Outreach Officer, National Solar Observatory Our Sun is a variable, active star that has many faces. Learn how it influences life here on Earth and how the National Solar Observatory studies it with telescopes here and around the world.
