Programming Cable for N8/11 GPS

The firmware (built-in software) in the NexStar 8 GPS and 11 GPS scopes is designed to be updated by downloading a file from Celestron and uploading it from your PC to your scope.  These upgrades are not yet available, but are expected soon (perhaps July or August 2002).  To upload the firmware, you need a cable to connect from the serial port on your computer to the PC port on the base of the scope.  The PC port on the base of the scope is a standard RJ-45, so it is fairly easy to build a cable using a flat RJ-45 cable and a DB-9 (female) to RJ-45 adapter.  The following is the end of the cable that plugs into the PC port on the scope.  Insure that the leads indicated connect to correct pins on the DB-9 serial port connector.

DB-9 to RJ-45 adapters and RJ-45 cables can be purchased at http://www.a2zcables.com.  David Carter is also selling pre-made cables online for a much lower price than you will usually find.  Try this link or email him at david@carter.net.
