Becoming a NASA Galileo Educator Fellow

 

What Galileo Educator Fellows receive:

What Galileo Educator Fellows commit to:

Professional development (PD) at a 2-day GEN Professional Development Institute (PDI); accepted participants have the option of bringing an additional person from their institution/organization.

Accepted participants will fully participate in the 2-day GEN PDI.

Travel expenses from their home location to the PDI for one person per institution/organization; expenses allowed for reimbursement up to $1,250 includes round-trip airfare, three nights lodging, four days per diem, and ground transportation.

Recruit 15 or more teachers in their region, for the GEN professional development program the Fellow will implement.

$400 per organization/institution for completing deliverables, including a regional GEN PD program, and collection of evaluation data.

Deliver at least 15 hours of GEN professional development for the teachers recruited for the Fellow’s regional GEN PD program. Depending on the needs and desires of the Fellow, this can be implemented in different ways, such as: (a) a 2-day weekend workshop, (b) a few afterschool PD sessions, (c) a 15-week, 1 hour-per-week course, or (d) some other variation on these examples.

20 Universe at Your Fingertips 2.0 DVD-ROMs per institution/organization, for use in their regional GEN PD program.

Train and support local Galileo Educators who participate in the Fellow’s GEN PD program

NASA education resources, including an Active Astronomy toolkit from the SOFIA mission, and selected materials from a variety of Night Sky Network toolkits.

Disseminate GEN-provided resources.

Online GEN forum and PD opportunities. Ongoing GEN community interactions.

Participate in GEN community interactions.

Support from the ASP and the project evaluator in the development of the regional GEN PD program.

Disseminate evaluation instruments to participating teachers, and provide reporting data to project evaluator.

Support from the ASP in marketing the regional GEN PD program, including listing of the PD opportunity on websites.

 

Certification as NASA Galileo Educator Fellows, with recognition on ASP and GEN sites.

 

Evaluation data from the project evaluator on the local area teacher workshop and its impact on teacher practices
