Out-of-this-world Award 2006
In recognition of outstanding public programming Rules for entry Starting in 2006, Astronomy magazine will present an annual $2,500 award for excellence in astronomy outreach programming. The "Out-of-this-world" Award focuses on ongoing outreach programming -- not one specific event -- as organized by any educational or civic organization. Rules for the award: · Applying groups must be educational or civic organizations · The award recognizes an organization's ongoing efforts to involve its local community in the science and/or hobby of astronomy · Applications consist of an application form and two (2) essays: one describing the group's outreach projects [500 words], and another explaining how the monetary award would be used [250 words] · Submitting photographs, media clippings, promotional flyers, and other relevant material is encouraged · The outreach programs should be of a size and scope so the $2,500 gift allows demonstrable progress toward completion or improvements: for example, new telescope for public events, laptop computer, marketing materials, signage for events, structural improvements to facilities, or other technology upgrades · Award judges will be members of the Astronomy staff · The award money must be used within 12 months of receipt Schedule: July 15, 2006 -- Applications due to Astronomy September 2006 -- Award announced Please send entry form, essays, and supplemental material to: Astronomy magazine Attn: Out-of-this-world Award 2006 21027 Crossroads Circle Waukesha, WI 53187-1612 All applications and material must be postmarked by July 15, 2006.
