Astronomers have dropped a probe into Titan’s atmosphere and imaged its surface to uncover an unexpected world.

In the March issue of Astronomy, author Michael Carroll introduced Saturn’s moon Phoebe and why it’s an oddball satellite. In a recent issue of the magazine, Carroll described another — and more explored — moon of the ringed planet: Titan. In “Titan: What we’ve learned about a strange new world,” he provides a tour of the varied surface and atmospheric features that scientists have found on Saturn’s surprisingly Earth-like satellite.
