MINUTES of the RadioAstron Teleconference on January 19, 2011

N. Kardashev chaired the teleconference. The agenda of the teleconference and the list of participants are attached to the Minutes. N. Kardashev informed the participants on the progress in mission development. · He informed the participants on the oncoming launch of the meteorological satellite ELECTRO-L appointed on the January 20. This event and successive in-orbit checkout of the satellite are of great importance for the time line preparation of our Mission to launch. At present launch of the RadioAstron is scheduled for May 2011.

V. Andreyanov and N. Babakin gave information about ongoing final tests at LA. · · The science payload and the satellite bus Navigator were assembled in flight configuration (including SRT itself and VIRK system). All electrical tests will be performed in this configuration using flight commanding and telemetry analysis . These tests have to be finished in February 2011. Checking of the commands' execution and telemetric outputs will be done through Navigator service systems. In these tests VIRK simulator also will be used. Tests of the thermo-vacuum model were finished successfully.

Tracking Station in South Africa and in New Zeland. · S.Likhachev informed the participants about several formal meetings organized by the RSA and Space Office of South Africa. The meeting's protocols include consideration on the developments directed to organize TS for RadioAstron in South Africa. Now technical details are to be discussed. Such discussions are expected to be done in February 2011. S. Gulyaev informed the participants about recent upgrades of the feeds of the 12-m antenna which is fully operational now.. He also reported on the preliminary talks with TELECOM representatives about getting permission for transmission at 7.2 GHz The negotiations provide certain hope to get the permission. He also said that MOU between Auckland University and ASC was presented for considerations by the New Zeeland Ministry of Science and Technology.

Correlation of data outside of Russia was discussed by S.Likhachev, J.Romney, V. Kostenko, A.Lobanov and others. NRAO and MPIfR representatives expressed their willing to correlate RadioAstron data, and they stressed the necessity of agreements on the formats of correlator logs, time-correction file, and reconstructed orbit presentation. Without such information from the ASC timely presented correlators outside Russia may not be able to assist in data reduction. It was commonly recognized that close interaction between ASC correlator group and their foreign colleagues must be undertaken in the nearest time. Corresponding AIs were formulated.


Status of the development of the Mission Time Line. Y.Y.Kovalev reported on next planned RadioAstron VLBI test using three "Quasar" radio telescope in conjunction with the Medicina 32-m dish and Pushchino 22-m RT at 18 cm. The observing schedule includes two continuum sources, two OH masers, and two pulsars to test different modes of data reduction with the ASC correlator. Observing session is scheduled for February 2/3 2011 with the 10 hours of observing time. Kovalev also expressed ASC gratitude to Italian colleagues from IRA and Russian colleagues form IAA for observing time commitments at their radio telescopes. As for Time Line issue, Yurii made his comments that ASC will return to Time Line reconstruction as soon as realistic date of launch will be established. Preparation to provide visit to the launch site. N.Kardashev invited participants to send their willing to visit the launch site to Kardashev or to Popov, while S.Likhchev recommended to project administration to make necessary request to RSA to understand of how many visitors may be allowed.
