Astro Answers – New Horizons: Exploring Pluto


After a journey of 9 years and 2.8 billion miles, the New Horizons spacecraft will finally reach Pluto this July.ˆà This is the first time humans have ever conducted a mission targeted at this region of the Solar System òÀÓ so expect to learn a LOT.ˆà Before the spacecraft reaches its destination, come hear Jaclyn Avidon, Chair of the Amateur Astronomers AssociationòÀÙs Education Committee, speak about what we know about Pluto so far.ˆà WeòÀÙll cover all the basics of the dwarf planet, its moons, the region of the Solar System it occupies, and why it lost its planetary status.ˆà There will be ample time for Q&A.ˆà This is an exciting time for planetary science òÀÓ come hear why!
