P.šT.šTronko Center for Area Studies was founded asšašscientific structural unit ofšV.šN.šKarazin Kharkiv National University inš2008. The Center coordinates research inšthe field ofšarea studies atšthe University, inšKharkiv and Kharkiv oblast. Created under the aegis ofšthe All-Ukrainian Association ofšarea studies professionals, the Center isšdesigned tošpreserve and develop the traditions ofšscientific area studies.

The Center?s staff members regularly participate inšconferences, symposia, workshops, round-table and panel discussions addressing the relevant issues related tošarea studies, organize competitions ofšstudent scientific works inšthe field, investigate and generalize the experience ofšarea studies nuclei, assist faculty and students, asšwell asšother interested parties, inšconducting area studies research.

The Center?s staff members are also engaged inšpromoting the historical and cultural heritage ofšour region inšthe media, holding consultations for teachers ofšthe city and the oblast teaching the subject ?Kharkiv Region Studies?. The Center serves asšthe basis for classes inšhistorian area studies, including the optional ones, various excursions, consultations asštošcreating displays for museums and exhibitions. Itšisšinvolved inšaccomplishing projects related tošpublication ofšarchive materials, area studies literature, and other printed matter (first ofšall, inšpreparing different calendars ofšmemorable dates, anniversary collections, encyclopaedic and reference literature, guides).

The Center cooperates with academic and educational institutions specializing inšthe Humanities, the Ukrainian Society for Preservation ofšHistorical and Cultural Monuments, and other organizations.
