October Colder than Normal

Armagh Observatory reports that October was colder than average with normal amounts of sunshine and rainfall.

Precipitation amounted to 86.9 mm (3.42 inches), which is about the same as the most recent 30-year (1981-2010) average for October. The maximum temperature was 15.6 deg. C on the 6th and the minimum air temperature was -2.1 deg. C on the 27th.

The total number of hours of sunshine was 90.6, that is, virtually the same as the most recent 30-year average.

The mean monthly temperature was 8.6 degrees Celsius (47.5 degrees Fahrenheit), which is about 1.5 degrees Celsius below the most recent 30-year average for October. There were sixteen nights with grass frost, and one night with air frost. There were three days with hail and one day with fog.

These data refer to observations at Armagh Observatory, which has been recording the weather at Armagh since 1795.
