The conference is jointly organised by the Astronomical Science Group of Ireland (ASGI) and the Institute of Physics in Ireland (IOPI). It combines the 33rd Spring Weekend Meeting of the IOPI and the Spring 2004 Meeting of the ASGI.

The topic of the conference is Astronomy and Astrophysics in Ireland. All speakers will be invited to speak on a topic in accordance with this theme, but students and postdoctoral researchers are invited to submit posters on any topic in physics or astronomy ? posters are not restricted to astronomy and astrophysics. At the conference delegates will be provided with a Book of Abstracts. The detailed programme listing speakers and titles of contributions will be posted on this website later. The registration deadline is 15 March 2004 .

The organisers gratefully acknowledge support from the Armagh Observatory and the Northern Ireland Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure.

Conference Information

Lectures

All lectures will be held in the Rotunda Lecture Theatre, St. Patrick?s Trian, Armagh. Speakers and titles of contributions will follow later, and will be posted on the IOPI and ASGI websites. A Book of Abstracts, containing summaries of all lectures and posters, will be made available at the conference. All speakers are asked to email an abstract of maximum 200 words in MS Word or pdf format to Belinda.Hopley@iop.org and Alison.Hackett@iop.org. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is 27 February 2004 .

Posters

Students and postdoctoral researchers are invited to submit posters on any topic in physics or astronomy. Poster boards will be provided at the St. Patrick?s Trian (size of boards will be listed on the IOPI and ASGI websites). All poster presenters are asked to email an abstract of maximum 200 words in MS Word or pdf format to Belinda.Hopley@iop.org and Alison.Hackett@iop.org. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is 27 February 2004 .

Note that all posters should be put up on display on Thursday evening 1 April, and be available for viewing from 9.00 on Friday 2 April to 13.00 on Sunday 4 April. Judging will take place from 17.30 to 19.30 on Friday evening, and the results will be announced and prizes awarded at the conference dinner on Saturday evening.

Lunches and Conference Dinner

The Conference Dinner on Saturday Evening 3 April and the Lunch on Sunday 4 April will be held at the Armagh City Hotel. Delegates are asked to make reservations for these on the registration form. A simple finger buffet lunch will be served in St. Patrick?s Trian on Friday 2 April. Delegates are asked to make their own arrangements for lunch on Saturday 3 April. St. Patrick?s Trian also has a cafeteria where lunches are available, and there are several other nearby restaurants.

Accommodation

The conference hotel is the Armagh City Hotel (2 Friary Road, Armagh, http://www.armaghcityhotel.com/). Delegates are requested to make their own reservations for accommodation. All 80 rooms in the Armagh City Hotel have been reserved for delegates and accompanying persons on a first-come first-served basis. The Armagh City Hotel offers rooms from ё 39.50 per night per person sharing, including breakfast. The single room supplement is ё 28.50.
