Study of galaxies in a nearby Lynx-Cancer Void: project and first results

Pustilnik S.A. and Tepliakova A.L. (SAO)

Dwarf galaxies residing in the very low density environment (voids) are
expected in the frame of modern cosmological CDM models to form later and to
evolve more slowely in respect of their counterparts in a more typical
environment. The available data on evolution of void population are rather
scarce and indirect. Therefore, to check this prediction directly is
important by itself. Also, to find such unevolved galaxies is interesting
since they best approximate the properties of "primordial" galaxies in the
high-redshift Universe. We study late-type dwarfs in and around a nearby
Lynx-Cancer void with the aim to obtain their evolutionary parameters: the
ISM metallicity and gas-mass fraction. Its proximity allows at first time to
study properties of galaxies in voids down to M_B=-13. These parameters will
be used to check an effect of global environment on galaxy evolution. We
present the results of our 6m telescope spectroscopy of 8 dwarfs in this
region, the summary of the project status and preliminary analysis of the
data.
